It seems like there are always a never ending showing of space movies in our house; many of them hold a special place in our heart.
#1 There is nothing like the thrill of the launch in Apollo 13, with the doors and windows wide open... and the golfers on the tee, looking up in the sky :D It probably doesn't hurt that I can recite the movie, line by line .....
#2 has to be The Dish. There is something innocent and fresh about the story, and always brings a smile to my heart.
#3 October Sky ....
And yours?
1: Apollo 13
2: 2001 A Space Odyssey
3: The Dish

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey- (A revolutionary film that was the 2nd best thing that happened in 1968. Apollo 8 was the #1 real event that year! Unfortunately, Apollo program killer Richard Nixon got elected that year.)
2. Apollo 13- (I hated that week when Apollo 13 actually happened until 1995 when Ron Howard and crew made me realize that Apollo 13 was one of NASA's greatest stories. It was so depressing when Apollo 13 "failed". I was surrounded by people who thought NASA was a waste of tax dollars and they enjoyed the hell out of seeing me suffer through that long week. I still can't believe that BABE won the Oscar for best picture that year!)
3. THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL- An amazing movie that was years ahead of it's time--1951!. "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!" The saucer and Gort were flawless and Aunt Bea of Mayberry was in the outstanding cast. Super-civilizations are out there...somewhere. We are a candidate super-civilization, but we are still on the galactic endangered species list.

Klaatu- "I won't resort to threats, Mr. Harley. I merely tell you the future of your planet is at stake."
