As we covered on our Twitter (www.twitter.com/insideksc), NASA 901, an Astronaut T-38, made a quick run to the SLF from Ellington ARB in Texas yesterday afternoon. The departure, though, was not the norm. As Al Stern noted on our YahooGroup site:

T-38N "NASA 901" (YL voice) came into the Shuttle Landing Facility a short while ago.

Handoffs were:
119.825 Miami Ctr
126.950 Miami Ctr
124.800 Orlando A/D
128.550 Shuttle Landing Facility tower.

She was on the ground for a short while, then departed.

Now she is up with Miami Ctr on 126.95 and has just requested "an afterburner climb to avoid weather instead of deviating from route."

Permission granted.

She has been handed off to Miami Ctr's 125.075 and informed them she is going from FL220 to FL350. "Beginning my turn to the west."

My kinda pilot!

I agree. There aren't many female Astronaut pilots (I'm guessing it was Pam Melroy) but I wish we could get a little more of that "gung ho" attitude back!
