Although as many as 6,000 to 7,000 shuttle jobs will be eliminated at Kennedy Space Center, about 3,000 positions will open up in the new exploration program, said NASA Administrator Michael Griffin.http://feeds.chron.com/~r/houstonchronicle/space/~4/318364351

This is an excellent example about how the world isn't quite coming to an end with the end of the STS program and the start of Constellation. Times won't be the easiest, but this is by no means similar to a post STS-51L economic calamity at KSC/CCAFS.
Those who will adapt will succeed. Those who won't will have to find a new line of work. It makes me wonder just how many are going back to school NOW to make sure they have fleshed out their resume to the greatest extent when the new jobs start rolling in.

It's the Media. Mostly bad media.

This is a worn-out saying, but when one door closes, another one always opens. We all have to adapt to changes in the work world. The current atmosphere of negativity in the media and in some spaceflight discussion groups reflects a broader lack of confidence and optimism during these generally rough times in the USA.
Attitude is 99% of the battle.
The boom times will come back if the really important movers an shakers keep pressing on. I hope that the generally negative outlook coming from outside the program does not infect our political figures and cause them to do something stupid.
I surely hope you are correct Jim.
It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, as the saying goes.
