U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson stood in front of a crowd of 1,500 worried space workers and gave them what they wanted -- a rallying cry that echoed their concerns about their uncertain future.
He told them it was unacceptable that NASA didn't plan better for the five-year gap that will occur at the end of the shuttle program in 2010, possibly leaving 3,000 jobless.
"How do we mitigate those losses?" he said. "How do we get NASA to get jobs here to pick up the slack?"
